Treatment - NLP Therapy

All NLP therapy is carried out in an awake state, and is therefore particularly suitable for people or organisations who do not feel comfortable with the idea of hypnosis but who still would like to benefit from a speedy and effective form of therapy.

My services can treat many of the things that you would normally visit a counsellor or psychotherapist for and a lot more. Most specific issues can be dealt with in around three to five sessions, for more deep rooted problems, possibly six or more may be required.

NLP is a model of how individuals structure their own unique experiences in life. Using NLP we can step into the clients view of the world to discover, patterns of thought, beliefs, values and help the client to change.

NLP can be very quick and effective, 2 to 4 sessions are commonly all that is required to deal with a specific issue. Often with noticeable changes after only a single session. When compared to traditional talking therapies such as counselling which can often require weekly sessions for months or even years, it is clear that fewer sessions ultimately mean less cost to you, both emotionally, and in terms of treatment expenses and lost productivity.

Many people who have previously been for some form of talking therapy, often say, it was nice to talk to someone about their problem, but it didn't actually help them solve it. NLP is different, it is pro-active and focused on outcomes, empowering the client to change their own perceptions of the past and build useful resources for the future.

I have had remarkable success using NLP with both my corporate and private clients, and have successfully dealt with a number of issues including stress, PTSD, emotional problems, anxiety, depression, anger management, panic attacks, phobias, negative thinking, low self confidence, grieve, OCD, drug/alcohol problems, goal achievement, motivation, performance anxiety, low self image and more.

All treatment is carried out privately on a one-to-one basis. Most sessions will last approximately one hour, though if a little extra time is needed then that is not usually a problem.

What can you expect?

The emphasis will be on how you create who you are today from experiences past and present as well as your ideas about your future. The main focus is on how you do what you do rather than why.

I will seek to help you, to identify your desired state or goals. I will then guide you to achieve them by using your own and new resources and skills. This can involve changing beliefs that limit your success, identifying new beliefs, changing patterns of your behaviour, or developing new behaviours which help you to have more choices.

I will be paying close attention not only to what you say but also to the words that you use, your body language and your behaviour. From this I will suggest changes that can be made that will help you become more in control of your life – now and in your future. This means that you will learn new skills that will help you to achieve the success you want.

All cases are treated individually, so the structure of most sessions and the number of sessions needed will depend on you and your particular issues. However treatment will follow the following basic steps.

Stage 1 - First Session

During the first session we will:

• Discuss your particular issues and develop an understanding of your current situation and how you find it distressing or problematic.
• Discuss what you want to gain from the therapy and the options available to you.
• Give you an indication of the number of sessions that may be required.
• Identify a set of therapeutic goals, and any potential obstacles to success.
• Determine a series of smaller achieveable 'chunks' or tasks and a therapeutic strategy that will allow you to move from your current problematic situation towards your desired goal.

Stage 2 - One or More Sessions

During this stage we will employ specific patterns of transformation to allow you to begin moving from problem state to solution state.

• Transforming limiting beliefs

During each session we will also review progress towards your goals and amend our therapeutic strategy accordingly.

Stage 3 - Final Session

Tidy up any loose ends. Review progress towards your goals and confirm that work is complete.

About Nigel Magowan
